As the title implies, what's your favorite genre to play? As a side question - is it the same as other media like comics, books, movies, etc?

This was difficult, as I like a number and of late have been playing a more heroic version of Shadowrun and Superheroes the most.

But High Fantasy is my first and best love.

It's a mix of things, and certainly I did not mean to tarnish one preference or another. For me, it's a mix of difficult magic, deadly combat, etc. Now, here's the conundrum for me - I also like D&D at higher levels. But it's still about a bit more difficulty in getting powerful magics and a bit more difficulty in staying alive.

Now, what I hadn't, honestly, considered is the morality aspect of it. I do see it as different than High Fantasy but in ways I'm not very good at articulating. Perhaps another thread to avoid derailing any chance this one might have

I may be a minority, but I don't think of how deadly a combat system is when I see the terms High Fantasy/Gritty Fantasy. They just aren't related. In fact, I think Gritty isn't a correct term at all for what you're saying- rather it's Low Fantasy.

I don't have one single favorite style. I like them all.

Well I don't think of you as foolish. Even inside a genre I think there's room for differences. I prefer my fantasy to be less high, and a little more "Low", I like my Noir to have elements of fantasy in it. It all depends on not just me, but my players needs as well.
